SUMMARY:Philly Builds Bio+ 3rd Annual Symposium for Life Science Innovation and Development
DESCRIPTION:Launched in 2018\, Builds Bio+ aims to connect all segments of the life science ecosystem (scientists\, academic institutions\, venture capitalists\, incubators\, pharma and biotech companies\, developers and service providers)\, in major regional clusters\, through events\, research\, industry reports and educational programs. A 501(c)(3) nonprofit membership-driven organization\, Builds Bio+ is dedicated to bringing the life sciences innovation community together\, serving as the go-to place to find information about and assistance with growing\, building and locating life science companies in the major life science clusters it serves. \nIn 2022\, Builds Bio+ held the first annual Symposium in Philadelphia\, which was followed by two years of programming highlighting the strengths and potential of the life sciences market in Philadelphia. The organization has been extremely well received in Philly\, with over 300 people and 40 speakers at each of the last two Symposiums and sold-out events throughout the rest of the year. Importantly\, the events attract many people from outside the Philly market which can only strengthen Philly’s position in the market. You can see the representation on the Steering Committee and Speakers from each of the last two years here.

SUMMARY:Neighborhood Spotlight Series: Queens Evolution Into A Vital Discovery & Tech Frontier
DESCRIPTION:New York City has proved to be one of the most adept markets in the world. Founded as a trading outpost\, it has reinvented itself time and time again\, adding layer upon layer of history\, experience\, innovation\, and new ideas. The evolution of neighborhoods like Long Island City\, Willets Point\, and Flushing in Queens represent microcosms of this growth and exemplify New York’s ability to attract industries of the future. \nWith the campus effect at play\, Queens has become a gateway to innovation\, welcoming leading life science and technology organizations. A critical factor in driving the successful growth of the life science ecosystem is proximity to the areas where research professionals are already pioneering their work—the academic medical centers. With many of these institutions already clustered in the city along First Avenue in Manhattan\, Long Island City is primely positioned as a viable and convenient location to expand New York City’s growing life science cluster. Located adjacent to top academic medical centers and easily accessible by subway\, ferry\, or private car\, Long Island City is known for its unique character that supports the creative process. \nFurther\, Flushing and Willets Point offer Queens employees and residents world-class arts and cultural\, sports and entertainment destinations only a stone throw away. \nHear directly from the life science tenants and the public officials and innovators creating a mixed-use Discovery District that connects Long Island City’s transit-rich Court Square to the waterfront and Anable Basin via 44th Drive\, and how Flushing and Willets Point have emerged as global tech and entertainment destinations. Get a first-hand account of how they’re working to leverage the development of life science facilities to support the growth of New York City’s innovation market\, create the wide employment spectrum of the creative knowledge workforce\, and create an exciting urban environment for the next generation.
