YWIB-Philadelphia Metro: Home Fun Labs
May 22, 2021 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
Join Young Women In Bio (YWIB)-Philadelphia Metro for some fun science experiments with safe materials found around the house. The experiments are designed to teach kids ages 5-8 years how to think and create like real scientists.
The experiments are intended to trigger a passion for questioning, make observations, and ultimately have FUN! We will have Dan Del Duca, a Science teacher at Shipley Bryn Mawr conducting a real-time experiment with the kids. Kids will be able to follow the easy steps of the experiments and participate at the same time if they wish. They will be encouraged to ask questions that help them to understand why things happen in a certain way. The experiments will trigger their curiosity, allowing them to learn, think laterally, and develop the ability to ask questions.
As the experiments will take place online – we are aiming to record and then share the video through the YWIB You Tube channel and other social media outlets so they can be replayed. The objective is to extend reach by targeting underprivileged schools and areas, as well as private and public schools.
The event will be free to attend via Zoom.
Disclaimer: This event may be recorded. We encourage you to join with video, but if you are uncomfortable, please be sure to turn off your webcam and change your name to protect your child’s identity.
Please read the YWIB permission form located here.
