LSPA has teamed up with The Leadership Edge to bring you a workshop that combines content and activities that provide a greater understanding of team development while understanding how to best leverage various personality types. Participants will walk away with new tools and skills to help their teams reach their highest potential.

Workshop Agenda

1. Best Teams Discussion

The Best Team Discussion provides the participants with the opportunity to share their experiences in teams and to envision the attributes of a high-performing team.  This discussion sets the stage for the day’s activities.  The group will then begin to evaluate their performance against that of a great team, identifying preliminary “development gaps”.

2. Understanding Personality Styles

One of the greatest barriers to effective communication is understanding that all people don’t think like we do. Through the use of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator Assessment, participants will gain a greater understanding of their personality style and the styles of those with whom they communicate.  These may be members of their team, peers, or managers.  They will learn to anticipate and understand how and why people respond and act the way they do.  Participants will acquire skills to improve communication with employees, increase team participation, streamline team decision-making, and position team members for success.

3. Teaming

The balance of both tasks and relationships is critical to developing a high-performing team.  Through their participation in an engaging teaming activity called “LegoPerson” and a discussion of the Tuckman Model of Team Development, participants will identify the characteristics of a high-performing team, understand the stages of team development, and gain a greater insight into the keys to successful team participation.  Concepts including the importance of vision, agreed-upon goals, role definition, decision-making skills, the need for a common language, and planning are explored as the result of this activity.  Through their participation in this activity, participants will clearly identify their strengths and developmental needs as it relates to each of their respective teams.

During the workshop participants will:

• Improve communication and understand strategies for deploying your individual strengths for team success.
• Identify how your preferences impact your ability to work effectively with others in the workplace.
• Understand how teams evolve over time and accelerate the process of becoming a high- performing team.
• Recognize the value of teams to the organization and individual.
