Psychedelics as Therapeutics: Unique Considerations for Clinical Trials
Early research into the use of psychedelics as therapeutics demonstrated promise of clinical benefit across a range of neurological and psychiatric disorders. However, much of this research ended abruptly following passage of the Controlled Substances Act (CSA) in 1970 and the subsequent ‘war on drugs.’
The 21st century has seen a renewed interest in the potential benefits of psychedelics as therapeutics. This renaissance has been driven in part by clinical trials indicating that psychedelic-derived drugs may address an unmet need in a range of disorders, especially neuropsychiatric disorders.
As these therapies generate more interest from investors and drug development organizations, we must consider the unique challenges that developing these therapies pose. These challenges include site selection, patient safety, and the interplay between psychedelic and psychotherapy treatments.
We invite you to join our Halloran-hosted Town Hall on Thursday, May 18th from 1 pm -2 pm ET to hear from clinically focused experts within the psychedelics-as-therapy ecosystem. You’ll hear from an Investigator/researcher working with psilocybin as treatment for patients with major depressive disorder (MDD), a Clinical Research Organization (CRO) supporting sponsors in the psychedelic space, and a sponsor trying to make their way through the largely uncharted path to approval of a psychedelic therapeutic.
